Midland College faculty and staff enjoy a comprehensive choice of insurance plans including medical, vision, dental, life, dependent life, accident, short-term disability, long-term disability, and flexible spending accounts. The Texas Employees Group Benefits Program (GBP) is administered by the Employees Retirement System of Texas (ERS). Additional benefits include cancer, critical illness and hospital protection plans administered by AFLAC. The following benefits are provided at no cost to full-time faculty and staff:
- Medical Coverage
- Dental Coverage
- Optional Life up to 2x annual salary; reducing at certain ages
- Short-Term Disability
- Long-Term Disability
Optional benefits are available at group rates. Dependent coverage is optional and employee is responsible for the premiums. Dependent eligibility is subject to occasional audits by ERS or designee.

Medical Plans: ERS offers MC employees a choice between HealthSelect and Consumer-Directed HealthSelect which is a high-deductible plan; both plans administered by BlueCross BlueShield of Texas.
State of Texas Vision: HealthSelect of Texas does allow an annual eye exam but does not come with comprehensive vision care benefits. The State of Texas Vision plan includes low copays for eye exams, contact lenses fittings, frames, eyeglass lenses and contact lenses.
State of Texas Vision – Administered by Superior Vision
Dental Plans: You have a choice of two dental insurance plans, or a Dental Discount plan. You can only enroll in one of the three dental plans. Members and dependents must be enrolled in the same plan.
* This plan is not dental insurance, but a discount program for dental services.
Other Benefit Plans:
Optional Term Life Insurance – Administered by Securian
* May purchase up to four times your annual salary (up to a maximum of $400,000).
Dependent Term Life Insurance – Administered by Securian
Voluntary Accident & Dismemberment Insurance – Administered by Securian
* May elect coverage between $10,000 and $200,000 for yourself or yourself and eligible family members.
Short-Term & Long-Term Disability Insurance – Administered by ReedGroup
* The Texas Income Protection PlanSM (TIPP) offers short- and long-term disability insurance to eligible employees. This coverage is not available to family members or retirees.
