Choices at MC
The Associate of Arts Degree and the Associate of Science Degree are chosen from a regular course of study, as listed in the catalog. These degrees are primarily for the first two years of a four-year degree. They offer transferable courses to a university, and they require a specific major such as biology.
The Associate of Arts Degree in General Studies and the Associate of Science Degree in General Studies can also be transferred and consist of what is commonly know as the “basics,” or "core" courses. They are selected when an individualized plan is needed or if a major is not yet decided.
The Associate of Applied Science Degree is designed for a major in an occupational or technical field of study. Only about 15 to 20 hours of the "basic" coursework are transferable. The remainder are specific courses to the major and usually do not transfer to a university.
Midland College is one of a few community colleges in Texas that offer a bachelor's degree. MC's Bachelor of Applied Technology Degree is designed for students who have completed an Associate of Applied Science degree. The student would major in Organizational Management.
The Certificate Programs are predominantly applied courses which don’t transfer. They provide short-term training in a technical areas such as Welding, Computers, Heating & Air Conditioning, etc. They are primarily for students who want to complete training in a specific field within a year.
