F. Marie Hall Academic Building

The 79,072 square feet, two-story
classroom building includes 36 classrooms, a 102-seat
lecture hall similar to the one at the Advanced Technology
Center, offices for adjunct University Center faculty, a
student lounge on the second floor overlooking the campus,
a landscaped plaza with a water feature, faculty offices
and a large atrium with small kitchen for lecture hall functions. |
Construction is complete on this facility, and it is fully utilized. handrails at the drainage crossings have been installed. Landscaping around the building has - literally! - taken root. A coffee bar in the 2nd-floor lounge/patio is now open. Faculty, staff and administration have moved into the building, and classes are underway. The facility was dedicated the F. Marie Hall Academic Building in August, 2008. |
Data/Telephone System Network Upgrade

This project has begun as a component of the Academic Building project and preparations for the Student Services staff relocation required for the remodel of the Scharbauer Student Center. Additional IP telephones will be placed to accommodate department moves and new construction. |
Statewide Research Network: Lonestar Educational and Research Network (LEARN)

|
Very high speed fiber optic network connecting several Texas colleges and universities with other research institutions around the country. Provides access to Internet 2 and the NLR (National Lambda Rail). |
Recent developments initiated by Texas government officials have made circuit access possible at Midland. A LEARN Point of Presence (POP) is now in place in Midland. Information on costs and procedures has been requested from LEARN, and will be reviewed by Midland College IT. |

Science Building - Phase II

This will provide six 40-seat classrooms, one 30-seat classrooms, two biology labs, and offices. There is also the addition of a chemistry lab project. |
The interior is nearing completion. Remodeling of the Distance Learning classrooms is under way, and they should be ready for Spring 2010 semester classes. Chemistry Lab punch list is under way. Landscaping is complete. Faculty have moved into offices, and upstairs classrooms and biology labs are in use. Landscaping is complete. Two new chemistry labs have completed the drawing and design phase, and have been approved by the Board of Trustees. Some demolition has started.
Construction equipment will be on site (in the northeast quarters of the campus). Be careful in the construction zones! |
Dorothy and Todd Aaron Medical Sciences Building Expansion

This project is well under way. Close-in is complete. Finishes are being applied. Project should complete soon, except for ‘punch list’ items. |
Bill Pace Cogdell Learning Center
|
• New 20-station computer lab & 2 classrooms

The
initial project is complete. Staff have moved back into the building.
A new, Title V project has begun. Exterior masonry is well under way, and interior partitions are installed. Project is ahead of schedule. |
Aviation Training Center

This will combine two aviation programs: Professional Pilot Training and Aviation Maintenance into one center with:
• Hanger space and paint booth • Classroom and office space • Parking and lighting |

New Helen L. Greathouse
Children's Center


|
This new, 10,838 square-foot facility will increase the number
of children served from 52 to 125, increase the age range of children served
and improve the basis for MC's Childcare Development program.
The new center is located on the south side of the Midland College campus, between the Technical Center and the PE Building. |
Work on the new center is now complete. Staff and students moved-in during Spring Break.The new Helen L. Greathouse Children's Center was celebrated with an Open House on April 8, 2009. |
Murray Fasken
Learning Resource Center
|
Lower floor walls will be moved
out to provide just under 3,000 sq. ft. of additional space
for book shelves and seating.

The Fasken LRC remodel is complete, and the center is now open. |
Physical Education Building

Close-in of additions is nearly complete. Exterior masonry is nearly complete. Ceiling tile is being installed. Decorative exterior wall block at PE is nearly complete. Interior remodel is proceeding as scheduled, and millwork at student center is being installed. PE building facilities are not currently available.

Pedestrian Safety Measure


|
19,800 sq. ft. pedestrian walkway will be built that will safely interconnect the two circles in the Master Plan. Also, a 1 1/8 mile, six-foot-wide sidewalk with ADA access ramps will be laid around Chaparral Circle for safety. |

The first of the major bond projects, the Drainage Project, has been completed except for some irrigation repair. This project was completed in a very timely fashion and slightly under budget. This project will provide improved drainage from the parking lots north and east of Chap Circle. |

A meeting was held with City Management and the Utilities Department to discuss water sourcing for the college. Proposals considered include a re-use source, a water well field in Midland Draw and domestic water. City Management and the City Utilities are committed to assisting Midland College lower irrigation water costs. |

Electronic Marquees

This project was added to the Cooper Construction contract for the Academic Building. Marquees have been installed. New sign supports and stone have been erected. Sign company is now looking at adding the college’s logo and name to the sign. |
| Re-keying the campus |
The campus is moving toward a new keying system.
The current system is 20+ years old , the master pattern is
depleted, and many locks are worn and difficult to operate.
We will focus on exterior doors first. |
Control Technologies and Midland College have developed the installation schedule. Crews have been installing the controls and security systems. Pevehouse Administration Building, Fox Science, Murray Fasken LRC and Davidson Family Health Science are now operating on the magnetic lock system. A new product has been installed for O’Shaughnessy Hall. |
