Frequently Asked Questions

Whether this is your first time taking an online course or you are a veteran of online classes, Midland College wants to provide a successful learning experience. In an effort to send you the information you need, we will answer many of the questions you may have about your online (WEB) classes and Blackboard.

What skills are necessary for an online class?

Take the Distance Learning Survey. Be sure to tally your answers and use the key to find your scores. If you do not qualify this semester, take it again later. As you gain experience taking college classes, your answers may change.

What is the first thing I need to do?

E-mailing your instructor is the first step. You will find your instructor’s e-mail address in the current course schedule, in the online schedule, or in the Online Course Instructor's list. This will enable your instructor to place you in his or her address book.

Note: You might not receive a reply to your e-mail until the first day of class.

How do I get into my class?

1. You will not be able to log into Blackboard until 8:00 AM on the first day of class.
2. Go to http://blackboard.midland.edu
3. Find your Blackboard user id and password.

Immediately after logging in, you should go to the Tools Bar and click on “Personal Information.” From this menu, you should change your password and enter your e-mail address. Failure to enter your e-mail address could prevent e-mails and assignments from reaching your instructor.

To enter your online course(s), you must click on the name of the specific class(es) you are taking that are listed in the My Courses section.

Whom do I contact if I need help logging into Blackboard?

If you have trouble logging in AFTER the first day of the semester, contact the webmaster by going to the online help form at https://www.midland.edu/distance/help.html. This is the fastest way to resolve an issue.

Can I access the Midland College library resources using the Internet?

Yes, you can access resources located in the Fasken Learning Resource Center or FLRC at http://www.midland.edu/lrc/index.html. Many of the Internet resources listed are already categorized for you by subject. You may also select a link or click on the tutorials to learn how to navigate the library information.

If you need assistance with FLRC resources, please dial 432-685-4560 for assistance.

2. You can call the Midland College Bookstore at 432-685-4546.
