Midland Asset Building Awards
Purpose:
To spotlight individuals, entities, and partnerships that have served Midland through asset building initiatives and programs.

Asset Building:
Any initiative or program that encourages individuals to save, reduce expenses, or build productive assets. A productive asset is an asset that increases in value over time or generates income. A wide array of initiatives are eligible, such as:
- Financial literacy programs
- Free income tax preparation assistance program
- Earned income tax credit (EITC) assistance program
- Programs to bank the underbanked/unbanked
- Small business assistance programs
- Creative fringe benefit programs that encourage employees to build their assets
Asset Building Conference:
On September 24, 2008, the Midland College Business and Economic Development Center will present the four awards during the Asset Building Conference which will take place at the Midland Hilton Towers. All nominees are encouraged to attend the conference and be present at the announcement. Mayor Wes Perry is slated to present the awards. Representatives from the media wil be present. Four awards will be presented, one for each of the following categories:
- Asset Building Advocate: Individual
- Asset Building Advocate: Nonprofit entity
- Asset Building Advocate: For-profit entity
- Asset Building Advocate: Partnership
Guidelines:
1) You may nominate your organization or yourself.
2) There is no limit to how many nominations a nominator can make.
3) You may attach up to 5 pages of materials that describe the nominated individual, initiative or program.
4) No higher education institution, entity, department, or employee is eligible for nomination or award.
Definition of award categories:
Asset Building Advocate: Individual: An individual who has personally committed time and effort to advance asset building initiatives or programs in Midland, Texas. This individual may or may not be associated with an organization.
Asset Building Advocate: Nonprofit: A nonprofit entity that commits time and effort to advance asset building initiatives or programs in Midland, Texas. Entities do not have to have 501c(3) status.
Asset Building Advocate: For-Profit: A for-profit entity that commits time and effort to advance asset building initiatives or programs in Midland, Texas.
Asset Building Advocate: Partnership: A group of entities that commits time and effort to advance asset building initiatives or programs in Midland, Texas. This category may be a combination of individuals, non-profit organizations, and/or for-profit entities.
Awards Selection Committee: The BEDC will recruit Midland College employees to review all nominations. BEDC employees will facilitate the award selection process, but will not vote. Only the information provided in the application will be considered for awards process. Midland College employees who have a conflict of interest with a specific nominee will not participate on the awards selection committee.
