ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Admission to this baccalaureate program is limited to students meeting the conditions outlined below.

Students may be admitted to the program as early as the sophomore year.  Students may enroll in upper-division classes when they are within 15 semester credit hours of completing an approved A.A.S. degree.

Admission to the BAT program:

  • General admission to Midland College
  • Compliance with Texas Success Initiative requirements (THEA, Compass, or exemption);
  • Successful completion of 30 semester credit hours of college-level course work including 15 hours from the general education core.  These 15 hours must include a course from each of the following areas: 
    a)  Mathematics/Natural Sciences
    b) Social/Behavioral Sciences
    c) Visual Arts/Performing Arts/Humanities;
  • Achieve an overall grade of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board has approved Midland College’s request to admit students to its upper-level program if those students hold degrees equivalent to A.A.S. degrees at Midland College. 

“Equivalent to a Midland College AAS degree” is defined as:

  1. A degree from a college accredited by one of the six regional accrediting institutions;
  2. The degree requires fifteen semester credit hours of general education courses;
  3. The degree requires thirty-six (36) semester credit hours of college-level applied technology courses as part of a coherent course of study.
  4. The degree is consistent with the identified fields of study Midland College’s baccalaureate degree.  These fields of study are:
    1. Public Service;
    2. Health Operations;
    3. Transportation/Industrial Management
    4. Information Technology
    5. Business and Administrative Services
    6. Banking Management

A student whose degree does not fall within the categories listed in item 4 above may be admitted on a probationary basis if:

  1. The degree or career field is consistent with organizational management objectives, and;
  2. The student has completed twenty-four (24) semester credit hours of courses consistent with the Midland College transfer core.

Probationary status will be removed after successful completion of six (6) hours of upper-level courses.

Admission to Upper-Division Courses:

  • Admission to the program;
  • 60 semester credit hours of college-level coursework.  A grade of “D” in a general education course will not be accepted for credit towards the degree;
  • English 1301, 1302 and Speech 1311, 1315 or 1321 or equivalent; Eligibility for enrollment in a college-level math class.
    (Completion of intermediate algebra or requisite score on a math placement test.) 
    Note:  Passing the math portion of the THEA does not necessarily fulfill this requirement.
  • Substantial completion of an approved A.A.S.degree (within 6 semester hours of graduation).
