As his nineth season appears on the horizon, Coach Tommy Ramos can look back at the program he has built and feel a deep sense of accomplishment. He can also point to all of the many young women who have developed under his tutelage. To date Coach Ramos has sent over nearly 40 former players to universities throughout the United States.
Ramos is one of the most successful coaches in the NJCAA and his career win totals bear that out. Over his past eight seasons the Lady Chap softball team has compiled a record of 379-113-2 (.767) as well as a 144-40 (.782) conference record which includes five WJCAC championships, six NJCAA Region V appearances, three NJCAA Region V championships and three NJCAA National Tournament appearances (7th in 2001, 4th in 2002 and 7th in 2003). In addition he has been named WJCAC Coach of the Year four times and Region V Coach of the Year on three occasions.
Ramos is a native of Stanton, Texas and a graduate of Stanton High School. He was a multi-sport athlete, having participated in cross-country, basketball and track and field. He was a three-time UIL Regional qualifier in cross-country.
After graduating from SHS, he enrolled at Midland College where he worked as a student trainer for the men’s basketball program. He graduated from Midland College and transferred to Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree from UTPB.
Tommy and his wife Yolanda are the proud parents of three children, Thomas who is 14, Breanna age nine and Sarah who is four. |
