Head Coach Delnor Poss

Consistency (kclipn-sclipscliptclipn-sclip) : a noun. Defined as reliability or uniformity of successive results or events.

The word also defines the coaching career of Delnor Poss. Throughout his coaching career, including guiding the Chaps to 17 consecutive NJCAA National Men’s Golf Tournament appearances, Coach Poss has been the picture of excellence and consistency.

Poss, the only men’s golf coach the program has known, has been recognized for the contribution he has made to the lives of countless young men as well as his devotion to Midland College. Recently, he was inducted into the inaugural class of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference’s Hall of Fame. As the unofficial dean of the Midland College coaching staff, Poss has been a significant and positive influence on his Midland College coaching peers. Many in the coaching profession see Poss’ standard of excellence as a goal in which to aspire and a career to be emulated. Poss’ MC career includes serving 15 years as Athletic Director, a short period as basketball coach and as a Physical Education instructor. Poss was one of the first golf coaches to integrate weight training and other types of physical conditioning into his golf team’s preparation regimen.

In his 31 years at Midland College, Poss has seen his teams win three NJCAA National titles in 1992, 1995 and 2006. His individual accolades include being inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 1994, Midland College Athletic Hall of Fame in 1997, the Hardin-Simmons University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998 and winning the NJCAA Directors Achievement Award in 1995. He is the proud husband of Martha and the equally proud parents of Nathan of El Paso, TX, Del Jr. (and his wife Peggy Ann) of Madison, WI and Mark (and his wife Maria) of Vienna, VA.
