J.C. Women's Basketball: Mansfield leads Lady Chaps to easy victory

November 23, 2009

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Midland College women’s basketball team finished its road trip to Colorado with a convincing 75-57 victory against Air Force Academy Prep on Sunday.

Lauren Mansfield led the Lady Chaps with 18 points, but no other MC player had double figures in the balanced scoring effort. Mansfield had three of the Lady Chaps seven 3-pointers as Robnesha Brigham, Brittany Wilson, Tatiana Haynes and Titania Simmons all hit from long range.

MC coach Ron Jones said he was concerned entering Sunday’s game because his team was a little fatigued and a few players were facing some illness.

“We had three people who didn’t suit up because we got a little bug running through our team,” Jones said. “I was proud of the way they finished the road trip because they are really tired. I don’t know that I’ve had too many teams any more tired than this team is now. It’s good to finish a road trip with a win.”

MC plays host to Cochise  (Ariz.) College at 7 p.m. Friday in the first day of the Lady Chap Thanksgiving Classic.
