Season Outlook
Our goals are very lofty every year. We want to win everything, Conference, Regional, and a National Championship. After our successful run in last year’s playoffs and a 31-6 finish, the returning sophomore’s are hungry for another opportunity to compete for a Regional and National Championship. Returnees Lyrell Barfield, Leeshantea Johnson, and Dymond Morgan finished the season very strong and should provide much needed floor presence as our young team develops. Although Mele Leasau missed all but nine games after her season ending knee injury, she should be a very solid and consistent performer as a sophomore.
The 2008-2009 version of the Lady Chap basketball team is athletic and deep, which should be a good combination for success. We once again have depth to play an aggressive, pressing, up-tempo style to wear down our opponent by the second half of our games. The overall skill level from an offensive standpoint is much improved over last year and should lead to good offensive output when the Lady Chaps are forced to more of a half- court game from time to time.
I like the mix of this team with our size, athleticism, and our potential to improve a great deal by the end of the season. Our team speed should create easy transition opportunities from our defensive pressure. With consistent improvement throughout the year, I believe we should be a very good defensive team by the end of the season when it counts the most. Equally as important, I believe we have a group of players who will put forth the effort and make the sacrifices necessary to be successful.
CONGRATULATIONS to the LADY CHAPARRALS!
