Season Outlook
Most college programs would be ecstatic coming off a 30-2 season, but the Lady Chaps ended last season with a very disappointing semi-final loss in the Regional Tournament. With that in mind, both the coaches and returning players have an unfulfilled feeling from last season. The goals for the Lady Chaps are very lofty every year. They want to win everything, Conference, Regional, and a National Championship. After back to back thirty win seasons, only a National Championship will quench the thirst of this program. Returning sophomore’s are hungry for another opportunity to compete for a Conference, Regional and National Championship. Returnees Shaquiri Graham, Lauren Mansfield, Heather Sheppard, Adrie Shiels, and Erika Warren should provide quality leadership as the new players develop in preparation for the conference and post season play.
The 2009-2010 version of the Lady Chap basketball may be the fastest and most athletic group of guards in school history. If this team figures it out on defense then a “run” in the post season would be expected. The posts have good size and athleticism and will improve steadily throughout the season and will be a very nice compliment to our guards. Once again we have the depth to play an aggressive, pressing, up-tempo style and wear down our opponents by the second half of the game. Additionally, if overall attitude is any indication of future success, then this year’s team should be well on their way to another banner year as they have continued to work hard throughout the pre-season. And, with the overall skill level from an offensive standpoint is solid; the Lady Chap season should be full of excitement and many memorable moments once again!
CONGRATULATIONS to the LADY CHAPARRALS!
