#9 Chaps go 3-0 at CSI Tournament

The #9 Midland Chaparrals improved their season record to 8-1 with 3 strong wins over the weekend at the CSI Invitational.

On Thursday the Chaps played Santa Rosa College in the opening game of the tournament. The Chaps came ready to play and jumped to an early lead and never let it go on their way to a 87-48 victory. Sophomore Forward Kavon Lytch led the way as he scored 18 points and pulled 10 rebounds on 9-10 shooting from the field. Garrett Lever also pitched in 13 points, 4 assists and 2 steals to pace the Chaps.

On Friday, the Chaps continued their hot starts in games and jumped out to a big lead against Western Wyoming leading to a 58-26 halftime lead and a 99-56 win for MC. Again the Chaps were led by Kavon Lytch, who had 21 points and 13 rebounds while Greg Hill scored 19 points and hit a lot of big shots for Midland.

The big matchup of the Invitational was the #9 Chaps versus the hometown CSI Eagles who were ranked #7 in the country. There was a whole lot of talent on the floor between the two teams and the game was played at a high pace and a high skill level. The game was back and forth for the first ten minutes, then the Chaps took the lead and weren't going to give it up. MC's lead stayed between 3 and 8 points the rest of the game as the Chaps earned a hard fought 87-81 victory to go 3-0 for the weekend. Midland had a balanced scoring attack led by Forward Kavon Lytch who had 20 points and 11 rebounds to notch his third double double of the tournament and his fourth double double in the past four games. His dominant play earned him All-Tournament Team honors and he was also voted the Tournament MVP. Sophomore Guard Adrian Van Buren was also named to the All-Tournament Team for his strong defensive play and his hot shooting on the offensive end.

The Chaps are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Angelina Thanksgiving Classic in Lufkin, TX. They will play Lon Morris College at 3 pm on Friday, November 28 th and Navarro College on Saturday, November 29 th at 3 pm.
