Midland Chaparral Weight Room / Strength Program
Midland has one of the most complete weight rooms in junior college. This allows us to have a more functional approach to lifting and training than most conventional weight programs. Our emphasis is on strengthening the muscle groups and honing the body's coordination associated with basketball movements. Just becoming strong is not the goal of our program, it is to become strong and explosive in the types of jumps, slides, steps and other actions that occur on the floor.

Enhancing our athlete's strength and stability starts with strengthening their core. All basketball movements and actions involve a players core muscles stabilizing the rest of the body. Exercises such as multi-directional core ball throws and lunges along with full-body upright complexes are designed to improve our player's balance, explosiveness and strength starting with their core.
Quickness and agility are also key components of our strength and conditioning regimen. The use of quickfoot ladders, ankle dips and controlled slides are all important for our players to improve the speed and explosiveness of their footwork.

The remainder of our workouts are designed to improve our players' strength and explosiveness in key basketball areas. We combine our players' athleticism with strength in basketball movements to maximize their potential to excel on the basketball floor. We use full body complex lifts that mimic basketball movements or strengthen key muscle groups that are used on the floor by our players.
