After sharing a great Thanksgiving dinner together on Thursday, the #1 Midland College Chaparrals improved to 9-0 on the season with two wins over ranked teams at the Angelina Thanksgiving Classic.
On Friday, November 27th the #1 Chaps beat the very well coached and very talented #3 Navarro College Bulldogs 74-65. Midland's physical defense held the potent Bulldogs offense to 65 points on 34% shooting from the field and 23% shooting from 3 point range. Offensively the Chaps were led by sophomore guard Brockeith Pane who had 19 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Darrell Williams contributed 16 points and 11 rebounds and Jonathon Simmons had 12 points, but both were even better on the defensive end setting the tone for the whole Midland team.
After a quick turnaround, Midland played #25 Lon Morris College on the afternoon of Saturday, November 28th. The Chaps defense and transition offense set the tone early and helped MC jump out to an early lead they never relinquished. Darrell Williams (17 points, 5 rebounds) and Brockeith Pane (19 points, 4 assists, 4 steals) both had strong offensive games again while Jordan Walker brought energy off the bench to add 16 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. We hope that you and your family had a great Thanksgiving and hope that you can see the Chaps in action sometime soon.
