Over the weekend, the #3 Midland College Chaparrals started off the 2009-10 season with three wins in the Odessa Classic.
In the first game, the Chaps came out slow and rusty, but turned it on late to win 72-66 over a good Yavapai College team. Darrell Williams (6'8 SO Forward) led the charge with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks and Kenny Moore (6'6 SO Forward) added 15 points and 6 rebounds to anchor the paint. Jordan Walker (6'6 FR Forward) came off the bench to add 8 points and 8 rebounds and much needed energy.
On Friday, Midland played their second contest against North Lake College and turned in a much more intense and dominating effort on their way to a 92-52 win. The hard nosed defense by the Chaps held NLC to 34% shooting from the floor for the game. Rodney Milum (6'1 FR Guard) led the Chaps in scoring with 16 points, shooting 6-9 from the floor and 4-7 from beyond the arc. Darrell Williams (6'8 SO Forward) contributed 15 points and 8 rebounds to anchor the paint and Ty Nurse (6'0 FR PG) led the Chaps at the point with 12 points (4-7 from 3) and 3 assists.
In their final contest against the University of Chihuahua the Chaps jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they dominated both halves offensively and defensively in a 90-29 win. Brockeith Pane (6'1 SO Guard) led the way with 15 points while Jonathon Simmons (11 PTS, 3 REB, 2 STL) and Tyshwan Edmondson (8 PTS, 7 REB, 5 AST) added strong all around efforts in the win. The #3 MC team plays this Thursday, November 12th against Lee College. The game is at 7:00 PM and will be held in the Western Texas Main Gym.
