Assistant Coach Hector Rodriguez

Hector Rodriguez

Another member of the baseball staff is Assistant Coach Hector Rodriguez. Rodriguez is a native of San Antonio, but completed his high school years at Corpus Christi Carroll High School. Following his high school graduation, he continued his playing career at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he was an outstanding pitcher. There he earned four varsity letters and was named team captain in his senior season at UTSA. Rodriguez earned his BA in Kinesiology in 2004 from UTSA and began working as a student coach that year. During the summer of 2004, Rodriguez worked as a pitching coach for the Allegany County Nitros of the New York Collegiate Summer League. There he coached former Chap players Eric Moya, Patrick Smart and Chris Ryan.

Beginning in the 2005 school year, he worked as a volunteer assistant coach at UTSA and in the summer of ’05 he was the pitching coach of the Mankato Moondogs of the Northwoods League. Rodriguez joined the Chap staff, on a part-time basis, shortly after finishing his time in Minnesota. Recently he was hired as the pitching coach of the Bellingham Bells of the West Coast Collegiate League for the summer of 2006. Rodriguez was named interim co-head coach of the Midland College Chaps following the mid-season departure of former coach Steve Ramharter. Rodriguez helped lead the Midland College Chaps to a 41-13 overall record and the Chaps first appearance in the NJCAA Region V Baseball Tournament since 2003. He was named full-time assistant coach of the Midland College team in June of 2006.

Rodriguez’ duties will include pitching coach, first base coach, recruiting and equipment coordinator.
