Introduction Letter to
Prospective Students

Dear Prospective Student:

Thank you for your recent inquiry concerning Midland College. Before making a formal application for admission, it is suggested that you carefully consider the following essential information and instructions:

I. The required items which must be sent to my office are listed below:

A. An application for admission.

B. A $20.00 non-refundable application fee. This fee should be in the form of a check or money order made payable to Midland College, and sent to the attention of the Foreign Student Advisor.

C. An official copy of the transcript of your secondary school work. The official transcript must be translated into English and must show each course and the grade earned.

D. An official copy of the transcript from each college or university attended (if any). It must be translated into English and must show each course and the grade earned.

E. An acceptable score (525) from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). If you take the computer-based TOEFL, a score of 195 or higher is needed. Information concerning where to take this test and other pertinent information may be obtained by writing to the Education Testing Service, TOEFL/TSE Services-Princeton, P.O. Box 6151, Princeton, New Jersey, USA, Zip Code 08541-6151. The Midland College TOEFL code number is 6459. TOEFL is not required of students coming from English-speaking countries. Their phone number is 1-609-771-7100.

F. A certified statement of financial responsibility is required of all foreign students. The statement must show evidence that the student will have access to at least $8,568 during the academic year. This amount is considered the minimum required for tuition, fees, books, room and board, and living expenses for two regular semesters. Additional financial requirements are listed further in this letter.

G. The Financial Statement must be completed and signed by the applicant and the person who will support the student while he/she attends school. The sponsor must specify exactly what he or she will do for the student. The statement must be notarized and returned to Midland College. Supporting financial documents are also required.

A decision concerning your admission to Midland College cannot be reached until all of the required items listed above are on file in the office of the Foreign Student Advisor.

II. Foreign students are required to have medical health insurance coverage. The insurance policy must include medical evacuation and repatriation to their home country, in the event this becomes necessary.

III. Midland College does have residence hall facilities in the fall and spring semester. The cost for room and meals is approximately $1700 per semester and includes meals. Contact the college for information. Dorms may not be available in the summer. Students are responsible for finding affordable housing. The Foreign Student Advisor will help through referrals to available housing but it is limited and may be expensive.

IV. The Academic year is composed of two long semesters which begin in September and January, and two six-week summer terms that begin in June and July.

V. Tuition and fees will be approximately $1100.00 for one 4 ½ month semester. This price
does not include the cost of books and incidental supplies. The student must count on $7,000 or $7,500 per nine month academic year for living expenses. Estimated total expenses for nine months (living expenses plus tuition would be approximately $8,568). If the student plans to remain in the United States for the entire calender year, the estimated expenses must be raised accordingly. No scholarships, loans, or grants are available to foreign students at Midland College. Part-time work must be approved by U.S. immigration authorities.

VI. All correspondence relating to all departments at Midland College, and all credentials, including application for admission, transcripts, and English test scores be sent to:
