Dual-Credit and Early Admissions High School Programs at Midland College
CHAPS
Dual-credit courses are college courses taken by a high school student for which the student earns both college and high school credit at the same time. All courses are taught at the high school campus during high school hours. Most academic dual-credit courses are fully transferable to public colleges and universities in Texas and generally transferable to other colleges and universities throughout the United States.
CHAPS (the dual-credit enrollment program at Midland College) is designed for junior- and senior-level courses. Sophomores are allowed to participate on a limited basis when an approved foreign language course is being offered. Students must complete the steps below to enroll. Please note: the class load cannot exceed two college credit courses per semester without permission from the Vice President of Student Services at Midland College. A Dual-Credit Brochure is available for download for your reference.
Early Admissions at Midland College is a program which enables a high school student to earn college credit before graduating from high school. Students must complete the steps below to enroll. Early Admissions students must submit the Early Admissions Program High School Approval form to an Advisor/Counselor in the Alison Fine Arts building to enroll. Please note: with approval from the student’s high school principal/counselor it is also possible to earn concurrent high school credit.
There are three steps involved in taking dual-credit/early admissions classes through the Midland College: ADMISSION, ENROLLMENT and PAYMENT.
Step One - The following paperwork is required for ADMISSION to Midland College:
1. Application for admission (one time only),
2. TSI test scores or exemption documentation from the high school counselor,
(Examples: Scores on TAKS, SAT, ACT or THEA/Compass). Students must meet required testing pre-requisites in order to enroll.
Step Two - The requirement for ENROLLMENT into dual-credit/early admission class(es):
The CHAPS Dual Credit/Early Admission Enrollment Agreement/Student Schedule (parental approval form valid for one academic year) is required prior to enrollment. This form may be submitted online or in person to the Registrar's office at Midland College. For students taking courses at high schools out of the area, please check with your high school counselor for more information on enrolling.
Early Admissions Students: You must also submit the Early Admissions Program High School Approval/Registration Form to an Advisor/Counselor in the Alison Fine Arts building in order to enroll. Written approval from the high school is required for enrollment.
Step Three - PAYMENT
There are three different methods for payment of tuition and fees:
- Pay online through Campus Connect. Click on the "Student Information" heading and then on "Review/Pay Account."
- Set up an interest-free, automatic payment plan online. Log on to Campus Connect, and select FACTS.
- Pay in person at the Allison Fine Arts Building, Room 109, between 8 am and 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
Payment is due at time of registration. Course selection and registration is only guaranteed if the course(s) have been paid for as stated on the student’s Statement of Account.
If any one of these steps is missing, the student will not be allowed to participate in the program.
