The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) sponsors several financial aid programs.  A more detailed listing of all state programs, listed below, can be obtained at the THECB Website: www.thecb.state.tx.us

State Exemptions

The State of Texas will exempt certain students form paying a certain amount of tuition and/or fees, based on their situation.  Below is brief description of tuition and/or fee exemptions provided by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).  These exemptions can only be used at Texas colleges and universities. Please notify the Financial Aid Office of you think you may qualify for an exemption.

State Aid Programs
Basic Criteria
TANF Exemption

Students who graduated from a public high school in Texas and during their last year of high school received financial assistance through TANF for not less than 6 months.  This exemption is for tuition only

Blind/Deaf Exemption

This tuition and fee exemption is for students who are certified deaf or blind from an appropriate State Rehabilitation Agency.

Early High School Graduation

Students who have attended high school in Texas and completed the requirements for graduation from a public high school early.
Fire Fighters Enrolled in Fire Science Fire fighters enrolled in fire science courses offered as a part as a fire science curriculum may be eligible for an exemption for tuition and laboratory fees.
Foster Care Students Exemption form tuition and fees for students who have been in foster care or other residential car under the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services on or after the day preceding their 18th birthday.
Hazlewood Act Veterans who entered the service as a Texas residents may be eligible for an exemption of tuition and some fees.
Clinical Preceptors and Their Children A partial exemption from tuition to eligible persons employed as clinical preceptors, and to their children .
Valedictorian Scholarship

This tuition exemption is for the highest ranking graduate from an accredited high school in Texas.  The exemption is for the first two long semesters following graduation and is for tuition only.  All paperwork must be submitted to The Texas Higher Education Board by one of the school's counselors.

Senior Citizens Students at least 65 years of age may qualify for an exemption for up to six semester credit hours and fees per semester.
Texas National Guard Tuition Assistance Program Certain members of the Texas Army or Air National Guard and Texas State Guard may be eligible to receive a tuition exemption.  To apply, students should contact the Education Services office at Camp Mabry: (512) 782-5515
Educational Aides Exemption Students that Certified Educational Aides may be eligible for a tuition and mandatory fee exemption.  Contact your school's District Office for an application and certification.
Tuition Rebate Program

The Texas Education Code authorizes tuition rebates for students who complete baccalaureate degrees with no more than 3 credits in excess of those required for their degrees.  (Please see Financial Aid Personnel)
