How Does It Work?
Meet with the Director of the Co-operative Work Experience program, Gavin Frantz, or your faculty adviser to discuss possible internships. Before you can enroll, you must have an internship placement approved by Mr. Frantz or a faculty member, a GPA of 2.5, and be enrolled for at least one other three-hour credit course.
What if I Don't Have a Job?
Midland College has several ways to help you find an internship position. The MC Job Placement Office and Mr. Frantz may be able to get your started on your search. You might already be working at a job that qualifies or volunteer work can count if the internship is structured properly. The employer always has final decision in hiring.
How Is My Grade Determined?
You must complete 320 clock-hours of work and 16 hours of seminars to receive credit for the course. Seminar participation counts for one-third of the grade. One-third of the grade is determined by the faculty coordinator based on job goals you set, and the final third of the grade is determined by the employer.
Can You Tell Me More About the Seminars?
The seminars cover a variety of topics including career planning, job hunting skills, and practical things you'll need to know to survive in the workplace. Topics planned for this fall include: Personality Types and Jobs, Interviewing Skills, Understanding Job Benefits, Office Politics, and Time Management.

For the Employer
How Does It Work?
Your company interviews co-op students just as you would any job applicant. You offer a training experience only if you find a suitable candidate. After the co-op student begins work, you, the student, and the student's faculty advisor will set a list of goals to be achieved during the training period.
Do I pay my intern?
Salary is negotiable between you and the student. Many students volunteer their time at non-profit agencies or government offices in exchange for valuable work experience.
How long does an intern work?
Training experiences are designed to be temporary; 320 clock-hours are required for the student to receive credit. Start and end dates are extremely flexible; a student doesn't need to wait for the beginning of a semester to enroll.
What if things don't work out?
The internship is not a contract. Your firm is not legally bound to hire an intern for a specified period of time.
What if I want to hire my intern for a permanent position?
Great! We hope there are lots of success stories that lead to permanent positions.
What does my company need to do to become an internship site?
